SYNOPSIS

Bacardi established hip hop as the newfound ‘Sound of Rum’ in Poland and gained the first-mover advantage by taking the first step on a journey of self-expression, or as we call it, #DoWhatMovesYou. May 8th, 2019, marked as the day Poland’s first-ever hip hop only awards, Popkillery 2019 was introduced to all artists and fans across the country. In the coming years, Popkillery will go on to serve as a flourishing platform and annual event, that continues to appreciate and acknowledge the thriving talent of Poland.

With rap music on the rise globally, Polish artists often felt the lack of recognition as the biggest shortfall on the Polish hip hop community. No worries! We love the genre, so we support the hip hop gang! We stepped in and brought change by curating the first-ever hip hop awards in Poland, in collaboration with PopkillerTV. Based out of Warsaw, PopkillerTV is popularly referred to as the holy grail of hip hop in Poland, which started as a digital publishing platform for the Polish rap industry in 2006.

The platform today has expanded its reach in the digital realm via Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. We worked with Popkiller to establish an on-ground presence for Bacardi. The awards helped bridge generations of hip hop by bringing the legends and the upcoming artists all in one place to acknowledge each other’s work and mentorship. Since we were riding the wave of a growing industry, we didn’t want the audience to miss out on it, so we streamed the entire experience for viewing. The content produced from the on-ground awards included cyphers with some of the most promising names; interviews that discuss hip hop through the years globally and in Poland; podcasts around the future of the industry and Instagram coverage from some of Poland’s biggest journalists. In its first year, the awards were covered by over 110+ publications organically from the local bearers of cultural news to Rolling Stones – picking up on the chatter and ranking up the earned media for the brand and giving a platform to the Polish hip hop community.
