Moonchild’s Journey from Port Elizabeth, South Africa to Coachella & Beyond!

Bacardi’s passion to celebrate self-expression and shine the spotlight on local music talent was really key in building the platform “Bacardi House Party Sessions” (BHPS).

So let’s meet the two artists who brought it all together:

‘Drumboss’, a South African DJ and record producer who won the SAMA Song of the Year award in 2015 for ‘Easy To Love’.

Moonchild, was earlier recognized as just the blue-haired musician that starred in DJ Maphorisa’s hit music video, ‘Midnight Starring’. Two years after this campaign featured her though, she regularly does the international music festival circuit, performing at Sound Festival Primavera, Spain in 2018 and Coachella in 2019.

For Bacardi House Party Sessions the duo – Heavy K and Moonchild performed an acoustic studio set, collaborated on a music video and also hosted their own exclusive Bacardi House Party!Heavy K and Moonchild held down the fourth and the final ‘Bacardi Live Sessions’ at DownTown Music Hub where they previewed their debut single – Yebo Mama amongst other hits. Heavy K’s House beats and Moonchild’s enticing style really hyped up South Africans to see what was in store from the duo next.

A week after their party, the duo released the much awaited music video for Yebo Mama. This song’s beat is iconic to Heavy K, sketched on African beats and the was well complicated with Moonchild’s raw and unique voice. The song Yebo Mama is a Gqom-House fusion, a pulsing club banger but it is also a homage to their mothers.

This duo is a story of Heavy K becoming Heavy K ‘Drumboss’ and Sanelisiwe Twisha becoming Moonchild Sanelly who joined the Bacardi 8 as an upcoming artist in 2017 and represented South Africa at Coachella 2019.
